Mario Traviati

Mr Traviati is the founding Partner and VP of Business Development for Great Bear Petroleum which operates oil and gas properties on the North Slope of Alaska. 

He was the First Vice President – Head of Energy Research Asia-Pacific at Merrill Lynch Inc in Singapore and supervised Merrill Lynch’s research efforts throughout 10 countries in Asia-Pacific covering the Oil & Gas; Utilities; Refining & Marketing and Petrochemicals sectors.  Mr Traviati worked on some of the largest energy deals in Asia over the past decade which included the IPOs of some of the largest energy companies in Asia.  This work included trade sales and takeover activity.  In that period analysed in detail most major energy companies in the region.

Mr Traviati has developed excellent contacts at senior levels with governments and companies across Asia-Pacific, the Sub-Continent and the Middle East where he worked for several Governments in the region.  He has also worked on Indian, Chinese, Thai, Brunei. Philippine and Indonesian deals.

Prior to Merrill Lynch, he served as Director of Energy Research at HSBC Securities, and as a Senior Energy Analyst with ANZ Securities.  During his career in energy research he was consistently rated in the top three energy analysts in every major survey in Asia including numerous number one ratings for over 15 years.

Mr Traviati has a Masters Degree in Geology with a thesis on Prospect Evaluation, and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mathematics.  He began his oil and gas career working in exploration with Woodside Petroleum.

Paul Bernard

Mr Bernard is an experienced finance executive with extensive experience in both Asian financial markets as well as the energy sector.  He worked at Goldman Sachs for 19 years, and was named a Managing Director in 2001 and a Partner in 2004.  

Mr Bernard started in Goldman’s New York office and relocated to Hong Kong in 1995 to establish coverage of the Asian energy and chemicals sectors.  He was named the top analyst in both sectors by a variety of surveys, including Institutional Investor, Greenwich and Asia Money.  In this role he led investor education efforts for a number of significant equity offerings, including PetroChina, Inpex, PTT Exploration & Production and Gulf Indonesia Resources.

In addition to his stock coverage responsibilities, in 2001 Mr Bernard was named co-Director of Asia Pacific Investment Research, a role he held for over 11 years. He was also a member of Goldman Sachs’ Asia Management Committee, the group that oversees Goldman Sachs' businesses in Asia. In 2008 he was named the firm’s first Chairman of Diversity for Asia. 

Mr Bernard holds an AB (Honors) in Economics from Holy Cross College and an MBA from Stanford University.  He is a CFA charterholder and a past Deputy President of CFA Society Singapore. He is a member of various corporate and not-for-profit boards.

Bill Marpe

Mr. Marpe is a member of the Board of Directors of Sonoro Energy Ltd, a TSXV listed company and is the President and General Manager of the entity operating the Budong-Budong PSC. Mr. Marpe has over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and prior to assuming his current position acted as General Manager for Petcon Borneo, the holder of the Palangkaraya PSC located in central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Before joining Petcon Borneo he was President of three other private oil and gas companies based in Jakarta, Indonesia.  

Mr. Marpe also previously held the position of Vice President for Regional Business Development for the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia with Union Texas Petroleum, Inc. and was in-house counsel with Roy M. Huffington Inc. Mr. Marpe is also a lawyer licensed in the State of Texas.
